Alverta works on the Al Bahathri Polytrack at Newmarket on Thursday 3 June.

Stable Manager Alice Minter reported from Newmarket on Thursday evening that Alverta is bright and well despite a tentative appetite.

Alice says, ”The environment is lovely, but obviously very different from home and it’s clearly affecting Alverta’s ability to settle in quickly. Given it is spring, the days are very long, it doesn’t get dark until 10pm and is light at 5am.

“Fortunately, the weather has turned from dismal grey and cold to beautifully sunny, which will hopefully help. Despite her lack of appetite, Alverta remains bright and enthusiastic in her work.

“She did her first bit of three-quarter pace this morning over 4 furlongs on the Al Bahathri Polytrack, an undulating, groomed synthetic gallop. This was her first time over an undulating surface and will prepare her for the July Course at Newmarket.

“Newmarket has the biggest variety of gallops and is set out much like a ski resort, with endless options of gallops and surfaces. We can understand how England is renowned for its stayers, given the length of the tracks, and we’re mindful of that, because we’re training a sprinter. The Al Bahathri is where Australian sprinters Choisir, Takeover Target and Scenic Blast did their work."
