A special visitor has created a buzz of excitement around the Lara Equine Centre this week.
Classy mare Alverta has been stabled at the complex since Monday morning ahead of her departure to England later tonight where she is destined for the famous Royal Ascot and the Group 1 Golden Jubilee Stakes (1200m) on June 19.
The six-year-old, who is trained in the NSW town of Scone by Paul Messara, arrived in town on Monday morning and her travelling foreman Leah Gavranich said they had been warmly welcomed by the centre's team.
"They've been outstanding," Gavranich said. "We couldn't be happier with the way they've treated us. They have welcomed us with open arms and you couldn't get a better place to be before we fly out to England."
Centre owner Chris Romanidis has been only too willing to accommodate the star Group 1 winning sprinter at the complex he opened in August last year.
Messara's Stable Manager Alice Minter said the Lara complex was recommended to them by vet Dr John Walker who will also accompany Alverta on her UK trip.
"We didn't want to stable her in a racing environment, given that she is going to be couped up for a day or so on a plane and on the tarmac," Minter said. "We wanted to find somewhere that was a relaxed environment but where we could also keep working her and maintain her fitness. From all accounts, she hasn't missed a beat since she's been there so we are really appreciate the opportunity to stable her there."
Messara won't leave for England until after another of his stable's star, Mic Mac, contests Saturday's Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m).
