We are currently fulled staffed, however, if you would like to send us your details and work history, together with work references, we will keep your details on hand. We look for motivated staff with a genuine interest in thoroughbred racing. We value our staff and regard them as integral members of our team. Our staff are very happy and we look after them, so positions only occasionally become available.
When we do require additional staff, we will contact people who are current, within 3 months, on our register.
If you are an experienced trackwork rider please contact us on (02) 6545 3911. Alternatively you can email your resume to sue@paulmessara.com.au.
The Tradition Continues
Racing has become a seven day a week operation and “down time” for participants is becoming scarcer by the day. Spending time with family members, particularly children, is naturally the number one priority for most when time allows.
However, the second most popular leisure activity amongst racing industry folk is heading for the nearest golf course and belting a small white ball around eighteen holes.
It doesn’t matter if it is Scone or Sandown, Matamata or Moree, they story is still the same. You will always find a foursome mixture of owners, trainers, jockeys or stable hands somewhere on a course across Australia and New Zealand
The competition is generally fierce with every shot being closely observed to ensure that the rules are obeyed. There is no need for stipendiary stewards here. Players are expected to obey the Royal and Ancient apostles diligently, and much banter and discussion can be heard amongst the foursomes when one digresses.
The Paul Messara stable has a group of very keen golfers in its midst. During the summer daylight saving months this group will endeavor to play nine holes after work at least one or two nights per week.
The camaraderie is enjoyed, the golf can be spectacular and shocking all in the one round but everyone keeps turning up and improvement has been noted.
Every June, during Scone Cup week, the thoroughbred industry holds a tournament at the Scone Golf Club. Pride is on the line and studs and stables strive to win the converted crown.
The Messara team has an agenda to win the event in 2009 and believes it has the talent to do so. These loyal and dedicated staff members intend playing as often as possible between now and June, sacrificing other social activity to ensure they are finely tuned by the time the big day arrives.
A suggestion to “the boss” to provide new state of the art clubs, motorized golf carts and clothing for all players has so far been declined.
The group remains optimistic that their efforts will be rewarded on the day.
