Scissor Kick dominant at Canterbury

Scissor Kick started what could be a fruitful spring campaign with a comfortable victory first-up at Canterbury.

The Paul Messara trained colt is nominated for the Group 1 Golden Rose and his performance, albeit against questionable opposition, suggests he could be competitive in stronger races.

Ridden by Josh Parr, Scissor Kick rolled forward from barrier three and controlled the race before kicking strongly on the turn and easily accounting for Crooked Blaze and Electrifyn'.

Crimson God was an easing favourite and failed to improve on his debut second with jockey Kerrin McEvoy suggested he needs further.

"He has got a good stallions pedigree and we've always had a lot of time for this horse," said Paul Messara's foreman Barry Wintle.

Apprentice Sam Clipperton showed his jockey smarts as Tarangower (Isle of Pines - Northern Meteor) outlasted favourite Pajaro in the 2000-metre third event at Randwick on Saturday.
